Coverage

Life insurance explained plainly.

Dru focuses on one thing: life insurance. He walks you through how each type works, what it costs, and what it would and would not do for your family.

Term life insurance

Coverage for a set number of years, such as while children are at home or a mortgage is being paid. It typically costs less per dollar of coverage than permanent insurance.

Whole life insurance

Permanent coverage meant to last your lifetime as long as premiums are paid, with level premiums and cash value that builds according to the policy’s terms.

Final expense coverage

Smaller whole life policies that can help loved ones with funeral costs, medical bills and other expenses at the end of life. Some are available with simplified health questions.

Mortgage protection

Life insurance sized to your mortgage, so your family would have funds to help keep the home if you pass away.

Coverage check-in

Already have a policy? Dru can help you understand what it covers today. Replacing a policy is not always in your interest, so any change starts with a side-by-side look at what you would gain and give up.

No pressure and no surprises. Here is the path from a first message to a policy in place, and what you can expect from Dru along the way.

  1. You say hello

Send the form below, call or email. Dru replies personally, at the time you said works best.

  2. A short conversation

A conversation about who relies on you, what you want covered, and anything you already have in place. You are not asked to commit to anything.

  3. Options side by side

Dru lays out the types of coverage that fit, from multiple carriers, and explains how each works, what the application asks for, and what to weigh.

  4. You decide

If you choose to apply, Dru guides you through the application and underwriting, and stays your contact after the policy is issued.

Questions

Common questions answered plainly.

General information to help you think it through. Every policy is different, and the insurance company’s terms and underwriting decide the details.

What is the difference between term and whole life insurance?

Term life covers you for a set period, such as 10, 20 or 30 years. If you pass away during that period, your beneficiaries receive the death benefit. If the term ends while you are living, the coverage ends unless the policy offers a renewal or conversion option.

Whole life is a type of permanent insurance meant to last your lifetime as long as premiums are paid. Premiums are usually level, and the policy builds cash value according to its terms. For the same death benefit, whole life generally costs more than term because it is designed to last for life.

Will I need a medical exam?

It depends on the policy, the amount of coverage, your age and your health. Some policies are approved from your answers to health questions along with records the insurer is allowed to check, such as prescription history. Others ask for a short exam, often done at your home or office, which may include measurements, blood pressure and a lab sample.

The insurance company, not the agent, decides what is required and whether to approve an application.

How is the right amount of coverage decided?

A common starting point adds up what your family would need: income to replace for a number of years, debts such as a mortgage, and future costs such as education. Then it subtracts what is already in place, like existing coverage and savings. The calculator above uses that approach.

Insurers also set limits based on factors such as age and income, so the amount you apply for has to make sense for your situation.

What affects what life insurance costs?

The main factors are your age, your health and medical history, whether you use tobacco or nicotine, the amount of coverage, and the type of policy. For term life, the length of the term matters too. Some insurers also consider family health history, occupation, hobbies and driving record.

The final cost is set by the insurance company after it reviews your application.
